Why you want to go to Eifel National Park!

Why do you want to go to the Eifel National Park? There is not just one good reason for that, but several good reasons! We would like to remind you of the top sights you can visit and the fun activities you can do here. Especially for lovers of nature, picturesque villages and outdoor activities Eifel National Park is an ideal destination for a short vacation or a weekend trip. Here we highlight the most important ones for you!

Vast nature around the corner!

Do you suddenly feel like getting away for a weekend? Would you like to leave things behind and recharge yourself in a beautiful and natural environment? Then National Park Eifel in Germany is ideal, because you are there in no time. It is only about an hour’s drive from the Dutch border. Because of the limited travel time you can enjoy the beautiful nature even more. Here there are no less than 110 square kilometers of nature at your feet, which you can explore in many ways!

Hiking, biking or horseback riding?

How would you like to explore the nature of National Park Eifel? There are many good signposted hiking and cycling routes that you can follow on your own. Would you like to know more about this area? Then you can also go on guided walks with a ranger. You don’t have to sign up in advance and the tours are free. During the walks you will learn all about the flora and fauna. Or explore the nature on horseback during a short tour, a day trip or a multi-day trip.

Warm welcome in the Eifel villages

Another good reason why you want to go to Eifel National Park is because you can always count on a warm welcome in the picturesque villages. A pearl among the villages around the Eifel National Park is Monschau. As soon as you step into this town, you find yourself in the atmosphere of days gone by. The authentic half-timbered houses, narrow streets and nostalgic buildings and scenes ensure this. Another village you should not miss is Heimbach. Here you can visit the Mariawald Abbey and Hengebach Castle.

The wilderness trail (4-day hike)

Follow the picture of the wild cat! The wilderness trail is an 85-kilometer hiking trail divided into 4 stages of between 18 and 25 kilometers. At some points it is possible to shorten the route slightly. During this hike you will discover the diversity of nature of the Eifel National Park. You will walk along babbling rivers, through vast meadows and deep forests. Climb hills and enjoy panoramic views. A map of the Wildnis Trail is available at one of the various National Park Gates.

Stage 1: From Höfen to Einruhr (distance 24.7 km)
Stage 2: From Einruhr to Gemünd (distance 20.5 km)
Stage 3: From Gemünd to Heimbach (distance 22.4 km)
Stage 4: From Heimbach to Hürtgengwald-Zerkall (distance 18 km)

Dear Family van der Lingen

We can open again!

Dear guests, there’s good news!

Our holiday home will reopen next Monday, May 11th for residents of Germany. Behind the scenes they are in consultation between Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium from which date there will be a visit from across the border again.

We assume that this will not be long in coming, because on holiday in the Nord-Eifel brings favorable conditions due to a lot of freedom and nature.

Our state would also like to see tourism flourish here so that the Eifel is again a nice and cozy place for excursions and holidays. The restaurants, museums, animal parks, swimming pools and all hiking trails have all reopened in recent periods.

Officially, the Dutch and Belgians still have to be very patient…
As soon as the date is known on which you can come and enjoy yourselves again, we will let you know directly via our website and social media.

We comply with all government regulations so that we can start without hesitation.

Book your stay now via our website without risk.
If you book through our site we guarantee that if you are unable to come because of the rules, we will cancel the reservation free of charge so you can make a new reservation at a later time.

We look forward to seeing you in our holiday home.
Kind regards,

Fam van der Lingen

Eifelsteig stage 03, via Holidayhouse blick auf Dedenborn

Eifelsteig stage three runs from the timber-framed village of Monschau to Einruhr am Obersee
You continue on through the romantic alleyways of Monschau, timber frames wherever you look, finely carved doors and little bridges over the Rur. Pack a few cookies in your rucksack for along the way and then off you go! The Rur, which rushes through the old clothmakers’ town into the valley, is your constant companion today. First, you hike up to the heights – from the “Kierberg” Eifel view you look back at Monschau one last time before delving into the forest. The trail continues to rise and fall until you are greeted by the glittering waters of the Perlenbachtalsperre dam. The walk along the banks is thoroughly relaxing and the climb to Monschau-Höfen is quite easy to complete. At Nationalparktor Höfen, you can find out about the wild daffodils of Eifel and take a little break at the café. You will notice something in Höfen. Beech hedges as tall as houses, some with windows and doorways cut into them. Are the people here trying to hide? No, but they are seeking protection – from the strong winds that blow up here. The hedges not only protect the houses; along the way you will notice that the high hedges appear again and again in the fields, giving you a sense of security.
A constant rise and fall then leads you along the Eifelsteig. A comforting gushing accompanies you – you hike along by the Rur again in the direction of the destination for this stage. It twists and winds through the rocky forest and has to overcome the odd hurdle along the way. You feel connected to the little river because you are also following this rocky path. Your stamina is rewarded with views along the way. One special tip is the view from the Perdsley in autumn: a bright red leaf canopy reveals itself and radiates down onto you! The view from Wolfshügel shows you your destination: Einruhr. Here, up on the heights, you get a feeling of loftiness as well as a growing sense of pride, because you have nearly done it. And your trusty companion, the Rur, has reached its destination. It joins other little streams in the Obersee and seems to happily smile back at you from the sparkling surface of the water.
At the destination in Einruhr, one thing is sure: “Where water and rock accompany you” – whoever thought up the motto for the Eifelsteig must have hiked this stage!
